how to elevate your next dinner party

We love hosting dinner parties here at MFCH!

It is a great way to surround yourself with wonderful people and to have meaningful conversations with. It is all about the slow lingering around the table and letting the conversation wander. But sometimes hosting the perfect dinner party can be a bit stress-inducing and have you reaching for an early glass of wine! So here are some tips on how to elevate your next dinner party with ease!

The first tip is to pick a space that best suits the occasion – whether indoors or out! The space can set the whole tone for the evening but don’t worry about getting too fancy, simple is enough. Music and lighting will go a long way.

Before you create your lighting scene, it is best to dress your table first. You can add a simple tablecloth or table runner to add a chic, simple touch to your table. Keep in mind that extra textures can create visual interest. We love a great pattern on our tablecloths and table runners, but simple is just as good! Use whatever you have on hand. If you do not have one, we have a lovely summery table runner, that we love, and you can find it HERE.

Once you have your tablecloth or runner laid, you can now start layering things on. We love to see beautifully dressed tables and it is a simple way to elevate your dinner party. If you have placemats, use them, if you don’t, don’t sweat it! Pick out plates that match or don’t and stack them by size and by meal. The larger one being on the bottom for the main dish and the smaller ones on top for entrées and appetizers. This look will make your table look much more fuller and save you time from going in and out of the kitchen.

Another easy way to elevate your table is to use cloth napkins and not paper ones that need to be thrown away. This is a much more eco-friend route as well, which we love! You can find a selection of our cloth napkins HERE.

If you are happy with your dishes on the table, the next step you can take is to add greenery and centerpieces. This is a very simple way to add a special touch of magic to the ambiance. Take whatever you can from the garden to create an effortless look all around. We like to have one medium-sized centerpiece with greenery along the rest of the table or tiny vases scattered through the middle of the table. Either way, you are sure to impress your guests. If you are looking for small vases on the table, we have some HERE on the MFCH Boutique. You can also set the table with candles and flowers to create warm lighting. We love to use these porcelain candle holders by Sharon’s good friend, Magalie, in the South of France. You can find them HERE.
