Since our May Box is all about taking time for ourselves, we are sharing some French treats to spoil yourself with the next time you are in France!

Having a dessert or confection is an excellent way to relax and enjoy yourself. Treating yourself can help decompress after a particularly stressful day, reward yourself for meeting a goal, or simply celebrate the good things in life. One of our favorite ways to treat ourselves to enjoy one of these sweet snacks.

Ispahan – some may think that this is just a fancy macaron. They are much more than that! This pastry is much bigger than a traditional macaron and is made with refreshing flavors of raspberry, rose, and even lychees – often topped with fresh fruit!

Montebiano – or Mont Blanc. This dessert is made with puréed, sweetened chestnuts, topped with lightly whipped cream. It resembles a snow-capped mountain and that is why it is named Mont Blanc. One of the highest mountains in the Alpes.

Ile Flottante – or the floating island. It is a popular dessert that features a cloud of meringue floating on top of a pool of crème anglaise (milky custard). Some places will top it with caramel sauce and toasted almonds.

Gâteau Mille Crêpes – a thousand crêpes cake. This classic French dessert consists of delicious crêpes stacked on top of each other and layered with a thin coating of either powdered sugar or pastry cream. The top of the cake is then covered in a thin layer of caramelized sugar.

Paris-Brest – this traditional pastry is presented as a crown of choux pastry filled with a praline cream mousseline and topped with almonds. It was created to celebrate the cycle race Paris-Brest-Paris.
