The French Alps are our source of inspiration for our upcoming November Box. Whether it’s world class skiing, soaking in natural hot springs, or simply taking in the views, the French Alps has something for everyone. Here is a list of our favorite charming towns in the French Alps.
Chambéry, France
Chambéry is located in the valley between the Bauges and the Chartreuse Mountains on the Leysse River, in the Rhône-Alps region in southeastern France. This charming town is surrounded by mountain ranges and is only a few miles from the breathtaking Lake Bourget. In town, locals and visitors mingle at the weekly farmer’s market that takes over the town square on Saturday mornings.
Annecy, France
In the Haute-Savoie part of the Rhône-Alps region of France, on the northern side of Lake Annecy, lies the town of Annecy. The surrounding wooded mountains include La Tournette, Le Parmelan, and Le Mont Veyrier. Here, you can take a walk along the charming cobblestone streets, admiring the colorful buildings and shops that line the narrow alleys, you will think you might have stepped into a fairytale village.
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France
Chamonix is located at the heel of Mont Blanc, its iconic Vallée Blanche, and history as host of the first-ever Winter Olympics. This has put this charming village on the map as Europe’s premier skiing and climbing destination. Today, Chamonix has six different ski areas, world-class hotels, and a Baroque village with high-end boutiques and brasseries. For a birds-eye view of this quaint village, head up to Le Panoramic to visit Aiguille du Midi.
Grenoble, France
Nestled at the foot of the French Alps, Grenoble is nicknamed the ‘capital of the Alps’. It is surrounded by soaring snow-kissed peaks and luscious green forests – making the views here, some of the best in Europe. There is a lot of history to be discovered as well as outdoor adventures, great food, bars, and so much more!
Megève, France
Megève is a town and ski resort in the Alps just south of the Sallanches and west of Chamonix. This village is great for both skiing and hiking with a large variety of slopes for beginners to professionals. The area features rustic-chic chalets, upmarket hotels, and designer boutiques, with streets that are lined in medieval cobblestone.
