bastide and the return to nature

We are thrilled to reveal we are working once again with Bastide for the limited-edition Daughter Box!

If you’ve been following My Stylish French Box or My French Country Home for awhile, you’ve surely already heard of Bastide, which is one of our favorite Provence-based brands. Founded by haircare guru turned beauty entrepreneur Frédéric Fekkai and his wife Shirin von Wulffen (who we interviewed in summer 2017- read the article here), Bastide has quickly developed its fan base thanks to its natural ingredients and luxurious, distinctly Provençal feel.

The meaning of the word bastide is, according to the brand’s website, “a traditional country house in Provence – made of terracotta walls, fragranced by warm meals and fresh garden blooms, and filled with loved ones and cherished memories.” This is the feeling that the brand is based upon, embracing nature and simplicity, avoiding chemicals and unnatural ingredients (you can read here their “black list” of ingredients that they’ve committed to omitting from their products).

The result is a line of products that feels truly good on the skin, that you can trust will do exactly what they are meant to do and nothing less, and that are fabricated by experienced artisans local to Bastide’s Aix-en-Provence headquarters.

Frédéric and Shirin acquired the brand from a friend of theirs about 10 years ago after they finished renovating their own bastide in Frédéric’s hometown of Aix-en-Provence. Their vision for their version of Bastide was clear from the start- to bottle the simple yet sweet feeling of being home in Aix, the calm of Provençal life compared to their busy New York City lifestyle when he was building his haircare empire, the return to a more natural, slower way of living. Their flagship store in Aix-en-Provence is even down the street from the square where Frédéric grew up!
