In our November box, we included a selection of Christmas tea provided by the French gourmet tea company, Mariage Frères.
This iconic brand dates back to the 17th century, when the tea trade began to boom in France. The Mariage family travelled as far as Madagascar, India and Persia, seeking out exotic new flavours of tea fit for a King. After years of experience in the tea trade, the two brothers decided to set up their first tea shop in Paris. Today, there are four tea rooms in Paris, our favourite is the beautiful house in the Marais district…
The Mariage Frères tea house- 35 rue du Faubourg Tibourg
The shop has a selection of 500 teas to choose from, including Earl Greys, Darjeeling, Green, Red and even Blue teas, all labelled with the original 17th century packaging. There are also chocolates, teapots, and all the accessories needed for the tea lover!
Upstairs, there is a wonderful tea room, perfect for a afternoon pause while exploring Paris. Tea is served with French Patisserie including madeleines, eclairs, or a tea dessert created especially by the chef of the house. There is also a tea museum, which presents the history of the Mariage Brothers’ journey.
We hope you enjoyed our special selection of Mariage Frères tea in the November box as much as we did. When in Paris enjoying the Marais boutiques, we’d recommend popping into this historic shop for an unforgettable afternoon tea.
