There’s nothing quite like summertime in Provence. The light, the colors, the olive trees and lavender, The markets are full of sun-ripened fruit, and the streets of its villages look even more charming. It’s a destination we love returning to year after year, and we wanted to be able to share that experience with you through our August box. Each item has been carefully chosen to bring you a different sensation of a Provençal summer – the sights, the smells, the tastes – right from your own home.
A leather sunglass case from Les Pavés Sonores: Les Pavés Sonores is a young leather goods brand created by two Parisian sisters who combined their talents to bring their leather creations to life. This stylish sunglasses case is made of high-quality leather, with a fun summer print and striking tie closure.
A solid perfume from Rose et Marius: This solid perfume, created by Rose & Marius in Aix en Provence, is perfect for slipping into your handbag, ready to dab a little scent on your wrist during the day. The pretty square box, inspired by the floor tiles of the creator’s grandmother’s house, can be refilled once you have finished the perfume.
Printed cushion covers from Charvet Editions: These beautiful linen cushion covers come from our friends at Charvet Editions, who you might recognize from our last Artisans of France box or from the cushion cover in our Marie Antoinette box in February 2018. We had them printed with a beautiful custom leaf print exclusively for My Stylish French Box clients.
A slate chalkboard from Un Esprit En Plus: Un Esprit en Plus brings us these slate chalkboards with a linen tag, ideal to hang in your pantry, or by the door. Note down your shopping list or leave a mot d’amour (love note) for someone special (written in French, of course!).
A lavender wand from La Maison Franc: Handmade for us in the heart of Provence, these beautiful and sweet-smelling wands are created using fresh sprigs of lavender, tied together and bent in half, then tied again. Ribbon is woven in and out of the lavender stems and tied together with a bow. Your wand will keep its perfume for years to come, don’t hesitate to crunch it now and again to release more scent.
This month’s watercolor print: We continue our series of illustrations by the iconic French artist Jean-Jacques Sempé. He loves to portray his characters on holiday in the South of France. Here is a lady looking out over the sea and contemplating the day ahead from the privacy of her rooftop terrace.
An antique botanical print: Each of our boxes has an antique French item, and for the August box we chose this 18th-century leaf print from a botanical encyclopedia. Printed in 1791, your print is authentic and most definitely worthy of a good frame. The edges of each page are rugged, typical of book binding methods of the time.
A bottle of olive oil from Nicolas Alziari: La Maison Alziari has been making olive oil in Nice in the South of France since 1868. Their store is well loved by locals, and while they have brought production techniques into the 21st century, they are still faithful to their original quest for quality, taste and beautiful packaging.
EXTRA: A set of mini notebooks from Les Éditions du Paon: In each edition of our box, we include an extra little gift to say thank you to our annual and quarterly subscribers. For this box, we have chosen a charming notebook, with a bird theme by Les Editions du Paon.
