The Art of Curating Our Box Antiques

At My French Country Home Box, every curation begins with a theme. It sets the foundation for each Box, guiding the story we tell, the mood we evoke, and the experience we hope to create in your home.

Once the theme is defined, we begin asking an important question. Which antique object could belong in this world? The antique is not an accessory or an afterthought. Its is often our favorite piece to include, as it brings depth, authenticity, and a sense of history to the overall curation.

To find the right antique, we start by creating a list of objects that align with the theme and reflect daily French life. We then evaluate how likely it is to find hundreds of those items while preserving individuality and charm. Size, condition, and practicality play an essential role, as each piece must fit safely inside the Box and feel useful in modern living.

From there, we begin a different kind of work. We brainstorm how each piece might be used in daily life, both in its traditional role and in more creative ways. We consider how our clients may choose to display or repurpose each piece, and whether it lends itself naturally to more than one use. This step is key, as we love sharing ideas that help antiques feel approachable and relevant in everyday living. Only pieces that feel intuitive, adaptable, and aligned with the theme move forward.

Sourcing is never rushed. We often spend months collecting a single type of antique, and sometimes years, until we feel confident in both quality and quantity. This requires patience, strong relationships with dealers, and a deep understanding of the market.

Once collected, every piece is handled by our small team. Each antique is carefully inspected, cleaned by hand, and gently polished when appropriate. Some are intentionally left untouched to preserve their original patina and character. This final step is done with great care and respect.

Antiquing is one of Sharon’s greatest passions, and her expertise shapes every decision we make. It remains our favorite tradition at MFCH and a defining element of our Boxes. We are proud to be one of the only subscription boxes to include antique pieces as part of a thoughtful lifestyle curation.
